Kuyt Bids Adieu to Anfield

Dutch forward Dirk Kuyt has left Liverpool and joined the Turkish club Fenerbahce on a three year contract. He moved to Liverpool in 2006 from Feyenoord and has made 207 appearances for Reds.

He decided to move on just days after Brendon Rodgers joined the club as the new coach.

Kuyt said that "The club and supporters I will always carry in my heart."

"The appointment of the new coach has nothing to do with it."

"When Fenerbahce came to me and made their ambitions known, from the first moment I was sold. They give me the confidence that I lost."

"After six years I am ready for a new challenge"

He later tweeted "I'd like to thank everyone I've worked with at LFC and specially [sic] my teammates. Also I'd like to thank the supporters for there [sic] great support."

Liverpool also confirmed the move by saying "Liverpool FC can confirm that Dirk Kuyt has advised the club that he has today reached an agreement with Fenerbahce SK over a move to Turkey, and the transfer is expected to be completed in the next few days."

"Everyone at Liverpool Football Club would like to wish Dirk all the very best for the future and thank him for his contribution to the club."

He joins Fenerbahce side that finished second in the league after Galatasaray and qualified for next season's Champions League.

Turkish Football Federation (TFF), which previously banned Fenerbahce from the 2011-2012 Champions League after accusations that quite a few matches were fixed during the 2010-2011 season has yet to take a decision.

Fenerbahce's boss Aziz Yildirim and more than a dozen team members behind bars in the ongoing trial and the club was hit by the investigation into the allegations led to a wave of arrests last summer.
