Chelsea's Ashley Cole who is ill with a stomach problem in Krakow; gives England coach Roy Hodgson a fresh injury concern ahead of Euro opener against France.
He was the only player not to attend an official reception with the mayor of Krakow on Thursday night. The greeting was just enclosures from England's tournament head quarters but Cole was too ill to join the official England party.
Chelsea captain John Terry and Tottenham midfielder Scott Parker were amid those there, nonetheless, and both said they were all set to play against France.
Terry who was struggling with the hamstring injury said "I'm fit."
Scott Parker said his Achilles was all right but of further apprehension was the prospect of Glen Johnson wearing a normal shoe on his left foot and a flip-flop on his right, most likely because of that wearisome toe infection he has been careworn with.
Hodgson is also facing the depleted strike force against France as Wayne Rooney is suspended for two games and to add to the worries Jermain Defoe gone back to England as his father passed away with a throat cancer.
England goalkeeper Joe Hart consoled Defoe saying "It was a tough one to hear. Our thoughts are with Jermain and we'll be ready for him when he wants to return."
A statement from the Football Association read: "England striker Jermain Defoe has returned home to England this morning following the passing of his father overnight.
"Jermain will re-join the England Euro squad in due course. There will be no replacement player called in."
FA source said "Jermain's father had been ill for some time."
"He had been treated for throat cancer at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London for some time so this was not a bolt from the blue for Jermain."
"He was told the sad news that his father had passed away overnight and we made plans for him to fly home as soon as possible."
"Jermain is a strong lad and was quite pragmatic about events. Roy Hodgson felt it was right that he flew back immediately to be with his family."
"He will miss at least two days of training prior to the opening match against France on Monday therefore we do not know if he will play any part in that game."
The Tottenham striker also received messages from his club mates on social networking site Twitter "Everyone at the Club sends their sincere condolences to Jermain and his family."
Now Roy Hodgson has very limited squad left with him with Wayne Rooney banned, either Danny Welbeck or Andy Carroll will get the nod against the France, with Ashley Young anticipated maneuvering just behind.
