Messi Bags another Award

Barcelona ace Lionel Messi wins the European Golden Shoe award as the continent's top scorer. The Argentine megastar scored an incredible 50 league goals over the campaign, and finished the season four goals clear of nearest rival Cristiano Ronaldo who scored 46 league goals this season in La Liga.

He took his La Liga goal tally to 50 goals, which sees him surpass Georgescu's (47) record. The goal-scoring machine shattered the record set in 1976 by the Dynamo Bucharest striker of most goals scored in a single season in a European league.

With an average of 1.24 goals per game, Messi has scored 72 goals in 58 matches. He has scored in every competition that he's played in this season; 50 in the Liga, 3 in the Spanish Super Cup, 2 in the King's Cup, 2 in the Club World Cup and 1 in the European Super Cup.

After breaking Muller's record with a domineering hat-trick, Messi continues to augment his legendary numbers at a hurried pace.

Arsenal's and English Premier league top scorer Robin van Persie finished the term on 30 goals, but failed to find the net as Arsenal beat West Brom 3-2 at the Hawthorns to corroborate the Gunners place in the Champions League next season.

Run of five goals in FC Schalke 04's final three Bundesliga matches of the season facilitated Klaas-Jan Huntelaar to raise to fourth place with 29 goals this season.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic came fifth became the first person to win the capocannoniere (Serie A's top scorer award) with two different clubs as he finished his campaign with 28 goals for Milan.

Manchester United's Wayne Rooney came in strongly at the rear with 27 goals, as he bagged the winner in Manchester United's 1-0 win at Sunderland on Sunday.

Four players joined on 48 points for the season and made up for the rest of the places.
