It was a goal feast last night at Le Mans, as France rout Estonia 4-0 in their last friendly before the start of Euro 2012. Karim Benzema was the showman for the team as he netted one each in either half.
Franck Ribery and substitute Jeremy Menez got the others as Les Bleus, unbeaten in their last 21 games, left for Ukraine with confidence high ahead of their Group D opener against England in Donetsk on Monday.
Les Bleus took the lead through Franck Ribery, It was Ribery's tenth international goal, coming on his 60th senior appearance, and his third in the last three games .The score was almost doubled when Yohan Cabaye then came tantalizingly close to score but it was Benzema got in on the act to extend the lead eight minutes before the break.
Benzema scored his second, tapping in a Ribery cross from the right, just two minutes after the start of the final half, making the score line 3-0, and increasing the trouble for the Estonian side.
However, Estonia were not letting it go loose as Sander Puri was unfortunate not to get the visitors on the score sheet when he drilled a shot inches wide of the right post.
Bunch of substitution followed from both the teams, that took much of the momentum out of the match, although replacement Menez tried to add a fourth for France when he cleverly jinked his way into the area only to blast the ball over the bar.
It was hard luck for Estonia as they almost snatched a goal two minutes from the final whistle when a shot from Vladimir Voskoboinikov was turned away by goal keeper Lloris. So it was France, who had the final laugh with an emphatic win.
This win has surely raised the level of confidence o the French team as they go against the injury rigged English team on 11th.
