Ex-Everton and England goal-keeper Gordon West dies at the age of 69. He spent 11 years at Goodison Park, making 402 appearances and winning two league titles in 1963 and 1970, as well as the FA Cup in 1966. He also had spells at Blackpool and Tranmere.
Everton paid 27,000 Pound hen a British record transfer fee for a goalkeeper to sign West from Blackpool.
He also won three caps for England and was part of the squad that came third at the 1968 European Championship.
He retired from football in 1973 only to make a comeback three years later with Tranmere.
He made more than 400 appearances, when Everton swanked two of the finest teams the club had ever seen, two league championship medals in 1962-63 and 1969-7, an FA Cup winner's medal in 1966, an FA Cup runners up medal and England caps that would have numbered more than just three if he hadn't chosen to sidestep the 1970 World Cup finals.
Former Everton striker Graeme Sharp said "It's dreadfully sad. I met Gordon many times and he was a real larger-than-life character who loved Everton.
"All Evertonians will be distressed at this news and my thoughts are with his family."
