Team GB make it to quarter finals

Team GB scraped to a 1-0 win over an unlucky Uruguay side who missed a host of chances.

They will now face South Korea in the quarter finals on Saturday after a desperate rearguard action in the second half in which Uruguay made all the running, hitting the woodwork in the final minute and frequently causing panic in the host's rearguard.

Stuart Pearce's men only needed a draw to progress whilst Uruguay needed a win, but it was a goal at the end of a forgettable first half which settled this encounter.

Allen squeezed the ball back across the six yard box for Daniel Sturridge to slide the ball home.

After the break there was more urgency from Uruguay who attacked from the start but brave defending kept the South American's at bay.

Luis Suarez was a constant problem for Team GB as chances came and went for Uruguay in a fractious second period which saw five players booked.

On the stroke of full time Ramires crashed a shot against the crossbar as Team GB held out for four added minutes to claim a last eight place.
