Tottenham sacks Harry Redknapp

Tottenham has announced the departure of their manager, Harry Redknapp.

65 year old Redknapp had a breakdown in his relationship with Chairman Daniel Levy, following which he is all prepared to be sacked from the team.

Redknapp and his agent Paul Stretford spent the entire morning with Levy for negotiations, yesterday, but the scene became clear last night that it is the end of his three and a half year association with the club.

Levy made it clear that Redknapp won't be offered the three or four-year contract which he wanted and held the manager responsible for Spurs' failure to achieve a place in next season's Champions League having thrown away, a 10-point lead over rivals Arsenal.

"This is not a decision the board and I have taken lightly." said Levy He further added, "Harry arrived at the club at a time when his experience and approach was exactly what was needed."

Redknapp, took the charge of team in October 2008 after the disastrous reign of Juande Ramos, when the club managed only two points in their first eight games.

Redknapp led them to an eighth-place finish and an appearance in the League Cup final, where they lost to Manchester United.

A disappointed Redknapp said, "I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Spurs and am proud of my achievements."

"I have had a fantastic four years with the club, at times the football has been breathtaking." He added.

Wigan manager Roberto Martinez and Everton boss David Moyes seems to be the leading names to replace Redknapp.

However, Brendan Rodgers, the new Liverpool manager, was previously the club's first-choice candidate, but he is now out of reach.
