Genoa basted club UC Sampdoria has made its entry back into the Italian top league. The Bluecerchiati as they are nicknamed spent an entire season in second division.
They were the winners of the 1991 Serie A title, and have had also made their way to the finals of the Champions League way back in 1992, where they lost to FC Barcelona 1-0.
Sampdoria embarked on a miserable run of results and were relegated to Serie B after loss 2-1 at home to Palermo in May 2011.
However, in the past few years, their presence in the top league was very irregular, as they were often demoted owing to their poor performance.
On Saturday, Sampdoria made a quick return to Italian football's top tier after Nicola Pozzi scored the only goal in the second leg of the Serie B playoff against Varese.
10, 000 fans watched the game back in Genoa on a big screen in the city's Piazzale Kennedy.
And coach Giuseppe Iachini delightfully dedicated Sampdoria's achievement to their fans.
He further added "I always believed we could do it even when things were difficult," and when asked about his stay in the club, he replied "Yeah, I hope so."
They join Torino and Pescara as the three promoted teams from Serie B, replacing relegated Lecce, Novara and Cesena.
